Technology: OpenAI announces a new tool to detect images generated by AI

OpenAI, an American company specializing in generative artificial intelligence, recently announced the deployment of a revolutionary tool for detecting images produced by AI algorithms.

The proliferation of generative AI has opened new avenues in the creation and editing of images, videos, and sounds, thus stimulating creativity, productivity, and learning. This evolution has also posed a growing challenge : distinguishing synthetic images from authentic media. With the introduction of the DALL-E3 software, capable of generating images from textual descriptions, this distinction has become increasingly complex.

In a blog post, OpenAI announced the launch of an innovative tool capable of determining whether an image was created using its image generator, DALL-E3. According to the company, this tool has undergone internal testing revealing a detection accuracy of nearly 98%, even in the face of common alterations such as compression, cropping, and saturation changes.

By taking this initiative, OpenAI follows in the footsteps of technology giants such as Meta and Google by joining the Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), a coalition dedicated to verifying the origin and authenticity of content.

This advancement marks a significant step in the fight against online content manipulation and reinforces OpenAI’s commitment to promoting ethical and responsible use of generative AI.
