Togo/BOAD Support: Government Can Continue Its Emergency Program in the Northern Region
The Emergency Programme for the Savanes Region (PURS), launched in Togo since 2022 as part of the government’s 2020-2025 roadmap, is entering its decisive phase. The West African Development Bank (BOAD) will support the initiative with 30 billion CFA francs.
The announcement was made on Tuesday, November 21st, during the 138th Board of Directors meeting of the development institution held in Lomé. This financial support from BOAD will enable the Togolese government to improve infrastructure, basic social services, and economic resilience in the Savanes region, located in the northern part of the country.
The support will include: the development of 125 km of rural roads to improve connectivity of the region’s localities; the establishment of basic infrastructure in several areas (through the extension of electricity and drinking water networks, including the installation of 302 solar-powered pumping boreholes).
The government initiative also aims to support agricultural product transformation through the construction of equipped storage facilities. The funds will also be used to enhance basic social services such as healthcare, education, territorial administration, and security.
Since the implementation of this program, various actions have been undertaken, facilitating access to clean water, electricity, and the construction of healthcare and educational facilities as well as rural roads in different localities within the region. These actions will continue until 2025, in line with the government’s roadmap.
