Togo / COP29: President Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé advocates for climate justice at the global leaders summit in Baku

The President of the Togolese Republic, Faure Essozimna Gnassingbé, took an active part on November 12, 2024, in the Global Leaders Summit on Climate Action, held as part of COP29 in Baku, Azerbaijan. In the face of the growing climate emergency, President Gnassingbé emphasized the importance of climate justice as the central focus of international discussions.

“We will not reverse the global trend alone. Climate justice must be the compass of all our discussions. It calls for substantial support funds to protect our populations and our biodiversity”, he stated.

His speech resonated as a call for international solidarity, underscoring that the most vulnerable nations to climate change, such as Togo, need strengthened support. According to the President, climate justice is based on an equitable distribution of responsibilities and a greater commitment from the international community to fund adaptation and resilience efforts in developing countries.

This summit marks a key moment for Faure Gnassingbé, who continues to advocate for coordinated and fair climate action, addressing the urgent need to protect ecosystems and vulnerable populations.
