Togo/Culture: Tourist sites attracting more and more foreign visitors and tourists
It should be noted that in recent years, the number of foreign tourists in the Togolese Republic has drastically increased, making the country an unavoidable destination in the sub-region, as desired by the country’s authorities. The tourism department is delighted with the latest visit of 1.300 tourists.
During a stopover in Lomé following the arrival of their cruise ship « Bolette »,1.300 tourists, mostly British and coming from Namibia, were reportedly delighted to discover the cultural and tourists attractions of Togo, particularly in the Maritime Region located in the south of the country.
With the support of the Ministry of Culture and Tourism, the tourists explored various tourist sites, including the House of Slaves in Agbodrafo, the Fetish Market in Aného, the fishing village of Kpémé, and the University of Lomé. They also witnessed the Zangbeto dance in Avepozo.
It was a wonderful experience for them, one that will always be etched in their memories. They were particularly impressed by the security at the sites, and the stories told about Voodoo and fetishes, which constitute a culture different from their own, as affirmed by one of the tourists. According to the same source, the Zangbeto dance in Avepozo is a great spectacle for visitors and tourists alike.
As a reminder, the Togolese government, through its Ministry responsible for tourism, has made the tourism sector a priority, as outlined in the government’s Togo 2025 roadmap. Since then, several initiatives have been undertaken to boost this important sector in the development of the national economy.
