Togo/Mobile Internet: The top 15 in west Africa
The ranking of mobile connectivity quality in West Africa for the year 2023 places Togo at the top among the fifteen (15) countries that have shown the best performances in mobile internet in the sub-region, particularly within the ECOWAS and UEMOA spaces.
According to information provided following the evaluation of telecommunications networks by nPerf, Togolese mobile operators (Togocom and Moov Africa Togo) have propelled the country to the top by offering better internet connection to their subscribers in 2023. This evaluation is based on five (05) criteria.
This particularly concerns the average download speed, average upload speed, latency time, browsing, and YouTube video streaming. The two mobile operators in Togo have distinguished themselves, especially with their strong performances in video streaming and download speeds, with respective speeds of 31.6 Mbps for MAT and 27.8 Mbps for TGC.
This performance was achieved thanks to the efforts and reforms implemented in the field by the country’s authorities through the Ministry of Digital Economy and Digital Transformation, as part of the Togo Digital 2025 strategy. Improving service quality and lowering tariffs have particularly favored Togocom and Moov Africa Togo.
The ambition of the authorities is to make Togo a logistics hub in the sub-region and in Africa. Hence, the encouragement from the Minister in charge of digital transformation and the regulator (ARCEP) to stay on course while aiming for excellence, in order to approach the best international practices in terms of mobile internet quality.
