Togo : President Tiani grateful to Faure Gnassingbé for his solidarity and efforts for peace in the Sahel
Under the leadership of President Faure Gnassingbé, Togo continues to provide unwavering support to the countries in the Sahel region, where the fight against terrorism is ongoing. His commitment to peace and stability in the sub-region, especially in the Sahel, is well-established. President Faure Gnassingbé, a man of peace, has consistently stood by Niger and its people since the beginning of the crisis.
Togo’s solidarity policy and commitment to peace in the Sahel are acknowledged and praised by the Nigerien authorities. It is a gesture of recognition and gratitude that Niger, through the National Council for the Safeguard of the Nation (CNSP), expresses towards Faure Gnassingbé and the Togolese people. Firstly, for his diplomatic efforts and emphasis on dialogue in strengthening relations between states and peoples.
Secondly, for his role as a mediator in conflict-ridden countries, earning him the nickname « mediator without borders ». Indeed, Faure Gnassingbé has consistently advocated for mediation as a means to resolve the crisis in Niger, even when some ECOWAS countries were considering a military option against General Abdourahamane Tiani’s country.
Even in the face of unjust ECOWAS sanctions, Togo showed solidarity with the people of Niger. President Faure opened Togo’s port to Niger to facilitate imports after the embargo imposed by other countries following ECOWAS sanctions.
Therefore, today, President Tiani of Niger, along with the entire Nigerien people, acknowledges Togo’s efforts, the readiness, and the solidarity of President Faure towards Niger and the entire Sahel region.
