Togo strengthens its agricultural sector with a new $60 million IDB grant
The agricultural policy of Togo, under the leadership of President Faure Gnassingbé, is receiving renewed support from the Islamic Development Bank (IDB). Indeed, on October 14, the IDB approved funding of $60 million (over 36 billion FCFA) to enhance agricultural productivity and support income-generating activities for vulnerable populations. This decision was made during the 357th meeting of the institution’s board of directors.
This new support illustrates the IDB’s commitment to accompany Togo in its economic and social transformation by improving the daily lives of rural communities. By investing in the agricultural sector, the goal is to make Togolese agriculture more productive and resilient, thus contributing to food security and creating new opportunities for local populations.
It is worth noting that this partnership with the IDB is part of a sustainable cooperation dynamic. A year ago, in September 2023, the bank had already approved funding of 84 billion FCFA to support Togo’s coastal protection efforts. This continuity demonstrates the institution’s confidence in Lomé’s political orientations.
Thanks to this financial support, Togo continues its march towards inclusive and sustainable development, addressing the needs of its populations and strengthening its food sovereignty.
