Togo : Targeted by Disinformation Plot, Country Consolidates Its Position Towards AES States

The President of the Togolese Republic, H.E. Faure Gnassingbé, has consistently stood out for his active diplomacy aimed at ensuring stability in the sub-region. His leadership has positioned Togo as a key player in peacekeeping efforts in Africa, particularly in the Sahel, thereby strengthening the country’s relations with those of the Alliance of Sahel States (AES).

Despite the hopes of terrorism supporters to enlist Togo among their ranks, they were disappointed as President Gnassingbé clearly expressed his position. « Togo is a country of peace, and Togo opposes war for any reason », are the words of the Togolese authorities.

With Togo’s stance jeopardizing any destabilization projects in the sub-region, the adversaries developed a new strategy to discredit relations between Togo and the AES member states. In collaboration with France, these ill-intentioned individuals launched a campaign of manipulation through fake journalists and certain activists under the influence of France.

They spread defamatory information about President Faure Gnassingbé. In various statements, whether in the press or on social media, these misguided individuals mention an « alleged recruitment of mercenaries by Togo, with the project of attacking Burkina Faso, passing through the northern part of the country ».

Not only are these false pieces of information unrelated to reality, but they are also immediately dismissed by the authorities of the Sahel States, who once again affirmed their unwavering trust in their brother country, Togo.

In this context, it is evident that Togo is facing a campaign of misinformation and manipulation aimed at deteriorating its ties with the Sahel States.

If disinformation and manipulation remain the weapons of war for the enemy today, it is an opportunity to urge the Togolese people and those of the Sahel States to be more vigilant. The populations are called upon to reinforce their support for the authorities committed to the journey towards the sovereignty of their respective countries.
