Togo: The government intensifies its efforts for universal health coverage with accessible local healthcare for all
As part of President Faure Gnassingbé’s vision of quality healthcare for all, the Togolese government is intensifying the construction of healthcare infrastructure across the country.
Recently, the Minister of Access to Healthcare and Health Coverage, Jean-Marie Tessi, conducted a follow-up tour in the Plateaux region, after visiting ongoing construction sites in the Kara and Centrale regions. This mission aimed to assess the progress of the 70 healthcare facilities under construction and to encourage the companies involved in the project.
These constructions are part of the Essential Quality Health Services for Universal Health Coverage (SSEQCU) project, launched in March. The goal is ambitious: to equip underdeveloped regions with 200 new healthcare facilities and associated infrastructure to improve access to care.
This program also includes a component with a significant batch of modern medical equipment, already received in August, to strengthen health centers.
By multiplying these initiatives, Togo is moving forward toward universal health coverage, offering the population accessible, quality healthcare close to home, and turning the presidential vision of inclusive human development into concrete actions.
