Togo: The HAAC, Media regulatory authority, plays its role for a peaceful electoral process
In its role as the media regulator in Togo, the High Authority of Audiovisual and Communication ( THE HAAC) is actively working towards ensuring a proper management of media coverage two months ahead of the upcoming electoral consultations.
Since the announcement of the date for legislative and regional elections (April 13), the regulatory body has committed to supporting this electoral process to its conclusion by playing its usual role.
Therefore, its next mission in organizing this double ballot is to supervise media coverage of the election by first defining the texts that will govern the work of media professionals, and secondly, planning access for all candidates to the media, especially public media outlets.
Supervising media coverage by press professionals during the electoral period is of utmost importance, given the sensitivity of this period where any information can escalate the situation and lead to a socio-political crisis in the country. It is therefore the right time for the regulatory authority to take its responsibilities seriously.
It is worth mentioning that the electoral body will be convened on April 13 for the legislative and regional elections. As for the electoral campaign, it starts on March 28 and ends on April 11.
