Togo: The textile industry gets a new boost with the arrival of the star garments group

The textile sector in Togo is experiencing new momentum with the arrival of the Star Garments group, a subsidiary of the American company Komar & Sons. This establishment, within the Adétikopé Industrial Platform (PIA), marks a significant milestone in the development of the Togolese textile industry. Supported by approximately 9 billion FCFA ($15 million) in financing from the International Finance Corporation (IFC), this new garment manufacturing factory, focused on exports, is a valuable addition to the country’s economy.

The textile industry in Togo has always had considerable potential, thanks to the availability of raw materials and a skilled workforce. However, this sector has long been underutilized due to various challenges, including a lack of investment and adequate infrastructure. The establishment of the PIA in Adétikopé is a strategic response by the Togolese government to attract investors and invigorate the textile industry.

Recently inaugurated, the PIA is designed to be a world-class logistics and industrial hub. It offers modern facilities and a business-friendly environment, thereby facilitating the establishment and expansion of companies. The platform has already welcomed several operators, and the arrival of Star Garments reinforces its position as a nerve center for the textile industry and other manufacturing sectors.

The Togolese government has made significant efforts to revitalize the textile industry and attract foreign investors. Measures taken include the creation of industrial zones like the PIA with state-of-the-art infrastructure to attract manufacturing companies.

Additionally, attractive fiscal policies and financing facilities for both foreign and local investors have been implemented.

The arrival of the Star Garments group at the Adétikopé Industrial Platform is a concrete illustration of the Togolese government’s efforts to energize the textile sector. This initiative is part of a broader strategy of economic diversification and sustainable wealth creation for Togo. With favorable policies and modern infrastructure, Togo is well-positioned to become a major player in the textile industry in West Africa.
