Togo: The Togolese government committed to better sports governance in Africa

From January 20 to 22, Togo reaffirmed its commitment to the development of sports in Africa during the interregional interministerial meeting held in Banjul. This event brought together African sports ministers under the theme: “Strengthening Sports Governance in Africa: Promoting Interregional Cooperation and Convergence for Sports Values, Ethics, and Integrity”. The meeting provided an opportunity to explore practical solutions to modernize sports governance and enhance regional collaboration in the face of current challenges.

During her speech, Togo’s Minister of Sports and Leisure, Lidi Bessi-Kama, advocated for the development of international and interregional partnerships focused on training trainers, sharing best practices, and transferring technology.

She also emphasized the importance of placing sports at the heart of national priorities, stressing the need for modern governance and greater professionalism in sports disciplines. Highlighting collaborative initiatives between Togo and UNESCO in the fight against doping, the minister encouraged African states to intensify their efforts to make sports a major economic lever.

At the conclusion of the meeting, participants adopted a joint commitment to strengthen integrity and ethics in sports governance, marking an important step towards sustainable and fruitful interregional cooperation for the future of sports in Africa.
