Togo : The Togolese government listens to the well-being of households at the end of the year
The Togolese government is making extensive efforts to ensure the well-being of its population as the year-end holidays approach. Under the leadership of the Minister of Trade, Kayi Mivedor-Sambiani, a strategic meeting was held on December 12 with major food product importers.
The aim was to ensure price stability in the market and the availability of stocks for essential products. This dialogue led to a notable reduction in prices, thanks to measures such as increasing the production of oil, reducing the price of a 25-liter container from 32.000 to 25.000 CFA francs, and the price per liter to 1.000 CFA francs.
Economic operators have committed to maintaining these gains, reassuring the authorities and the public about the availability of food products. According to Saad Bassam, a rice importer, the price of a 50 kg bag is now offered between 20.500 and 21.000 CFA francs, down from 25.000 to 26.000 CFA francs previously. These results are the outcome of constructive dialogue and joint efforts between the government, importers, and consumer associations.
This initiative is part of a broader strategy aimed at protecting household purchasing power while ensuring a sufficient supply of essential goods. By increasing consultations and conducting market inspections, the government reaffirms its commitment to the well-being of Togolese citizens, even in the face of uncertain international economic conditions.
