Togo: Legislative and Regional Elections Expected Within Four Months
4.2 million Togolese will soon be in the polls, for regional and parliamentary elections. Scheduled for the end of this year 2023, the next elections will be held within four months according to information.
The President of the Republic, Head of State Faure Gnassingbe reportedly instructed the government to make the necessary arrangements for the organization of these electoral consultations. It was in cabinet on Saturday, November 25.
According to the information relayed on the official website of the Togolese presidency, the Head of State Faure GNASSINGBE asked during this ministerial meeting, the government to take without delay, all measures to allow for the holding of the next elections no later than the end of the first quarter of 2024.
If it is now up to the Independent National Electoral Commission (CENI) to propose a timetable, The organization of these elections will have to take into account the persistence of security challenges to guarantee everyone the necessary security throughout the national territory.
According to the new electoral register, Togo has a total of 4.2 million voters, or 51.9% of the general population. The upcoming elections will renew the national representation and elect for the first time in Togo, regional advisors, who will be responsible for regional affairs, including development.
