Togo: West Africa’s energy innovation hub, a summit is held from December 3 to 5, 2024 in Lomé to strengthen the sector
The capital of Togo, Lomé, is set to host an unprecedented summit on energy cooperation in West Africa from December 3 to 5, 2024. Under the theme “Strengthening Sub-Regional Growth through Strategic Energy Partnerships”, this event will bring together officials from 16 countries in the region as well as international partners, marking a decisive step for West Africa’s energy ambitions.
For Togo, this summit is an opportunity to assert its leading role in promoting energy cooperation. In recent years, the Togolese government has made significant efforts to modernize its energy sector, diversify its energy sources, and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. The country has focused on regulatory reforms aimed at encouraging both private and public investment in energy infrastructure, particularly in renewable energy, which is central to its strategy.
Minister of Energy and Mines, Robert Koffi Messan Eklo, emphasized Togo’s aspiration to become a key regional energy hub. “Our country is particularly well positioned to play a leading role in promoting regional energy cooperation. The West Africa Energy Cooperation Summit will be a fundamental event where we can collectively shape the future of energy infrastructure, fostering growth that transcends borders and benefits everyone”, he stated.
During the summit, discussions will focus on crucial issues such as attracting investments, cross-border collaboration, and deploying renewable energy solutions. The expanding mining sector in the region, along with the necessary political and regulatory reforms for sustainable growth, will also be key topics. The goal is to mobilize resources and investments to develop robust energy infrastructure capable of meeting the growing needs of the sub-region.
This summit represents a strategic moment for Togo, which will be able to share its vision and attract more investors. By hosting this event, the country reaffirms its commitment to a more sustainable energy future and increased regional integration, uniting efforts for an energy-autonomous and prosperous West Africa.
