United States / United Kingdom: Burkina Faso denounces slanderous accusations against its Armed Forces and responds firmly to these Westerners
The Burkinabe government summoned on Thursday evening the the Business Manager of the Embassy of the United States of America, Eric P. Whitaker, in reaction to a joint statement by the United States and the United Kingdom echoing unfounded accusations of civilian massacres made by the so-called NGO Human Rights Watch (HRW) against the armed forces of Burkina Faso.
This summoning follows the publication of a joint statement by the United States and the United Kingdom, relaying HRW’s allegations, and is accompanied by a verbal note expressing the firm reaction of the Burkinabe government to these allegations.
Burkina Faso, in the documents presented during this summoning, expressed its surprise at the reaction of the United States and the United Kingdom, highlighting their tradition of scientific rigor and regretting their stance based on a report with premature conclusions.
Additionally, the Burkinabe state reaffirmed that the HRW report lacks credibility, both methodologically and in terms of the data used to support its conclusions. It thus reiterated that it has launched investigations in response to allegations of human rights violations, investigations which are ongoing.
Continuing its response, Burkina Faso emphasized the professionalism of its armed forces and called on the international community to provide genuine and sincere support. This firm reaction from Burkina Faso demonstrates its willingness to defend the integrity of its armed forces while maintaining its commitment to respect for human rights and transparency in conducting investigations.
