Why should schools offer EVRAS courses?
Evras: decree on education in emotional and sexual life adopted almost unanimously
From the start of the new school year, all primary 6 and secondary 4 pupils in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation will receive an educational programme on relationships, emotions and sexuality (Evras).
The draft decree validating the cooperation agreement between the governments of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation, the Wallonia Region and the French Community Commission on the generalisation of education in relational, affective and sexual life was approved unanimously at the plenary session of the Wallonia-Brussels Federation parliament on Thursday, with three abstentions from The Committed (René Collin, Pierre Kompany and Mathilde Vandorpe).
From the start of the new school year, all pupils in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation in primary 6 and secondary 4 will receive a presentation on education in relationships, emotions and sexuality (Evras). They will receive a single two-hour activity. This concerns 85,000 pupils in Wallonia and 25,000 pupils in Brussels.
The country’s French-speaking entities have agreed to mobilise an annual budget of 4.8 million euros for this purpose. This is the first plenary vote in one of the three institutions involved in this cooperation agreement. The plenary vote in the Cocof (French Community Commission) is expected on 20 September and that in the Walloon parliament on 28 September, according to a reliable source.
