Burkina Faso: Women at the heart of the peacebuilding process
In Burkina Faso, the Minister of Solidarity, Humanitarian Action, National Reconciliation, Gender and Family (MSAHRNGF), Mrs. Nan Somé/Diallo presided over the official launch of the project “Support for Capacity Building and the Role of Women and Girls in the Transition and Peacebuilding Process” on Monday, August 14, 2023, in Ouagadougou.
Indeed, this project, extends over 36 months, whose implementation concerns the region of Central East, Central West, North, and High Basins. According to the vision of President Ibrahim Traoré, the project aims to strengthen the participation of women and girls in the transition and peacebuilding process in Burkina Faso.
“In order to create favourable conditions for the participation of women and their involvement in this peace process, our Ministry is committed to the implementation of the programme ‘Women, Peace and Security’ and this programme involves the participation of women in the search for, in the restoration and in the consolidation of peace,” said the Minister in charge of Women. It should be noted that the total cost of this programme is USD 4. 5 million.
For the Representative of the Agencies of UNDP, UNICEF and UNFPA, Mr. Cheickh Mohamed Tidiane Mbengue, women constitute 51. 7% of the population and one cannot speak of inclusive sustainable development if they are not put at the heart of development (. . . ).
