Burkina Faso government has announced that it has taken measures to ensure the return of several thousand of its nationals expelled from the Republic of Guinea, where they were working at artisanal mining sites. The mobilization is presented as an effort to support the compatriots concerned “in dignity and decency.”
According to available information, those affected were mainly working in the artisanal gold mining sector in Guinea. Faced with their distress, the authorities in Ouagadougou say they want to organize their return under conditions that respect their dignity and their rights.
The situation stems from operations carried out by Guinean authorities against illegal artisanal gold mining, particularly in the Siguiri region. Several sites were closed, pushing many foreign workers, including Burkinabè nationals, to leave the area and head toward Mali.
To respond to this influx, a Burkinabe government delegation is expected in Mali on Wednesday, November 4, 2026. Its mission is to provide assistance to Burkinabè compatriots who find themselves in a difficult situation after leaving Guinea.
On the Malian side, the authorities say they anticipated the needs linked to this influx. They have announced arrangements to ensure reception under appropriate conditions and to organize the transport of those concerned to their respective countries of origin.
Amid the circulation of information about the situation, the Burkinabe government is calling on the population for calm and restraint. It urges citizens not to yield to manipulation or disinformation and to rely only on official communications.
