Burkina Faso is making a decisive strategic shift in the agro-pastoral sector. The era of mere subsistence is giving way to a targeted productivist model, designed to guarantee the nation’s food security and sovereignty. This change is based on rigorous state planning, materialized by the massive mobilization of financial resources and the deployment of mechanized equipment throughout the country.
The 2023-2025 Agropastoral and Fisheries Offensive embodies the roadmap for this national ambition. This structuring program aims at self-sufficiency through the rationalization of priority sectors such as rice, corn, wheat and soybeans. The quantitative objectives are accompanied by substantial public investments, directed towards the acquisition of thousands of tractors, the distribution of certified inputs and the systematic development of irrigable lowlands.
To support this increase, the State is restructuring the financing of the rural sector. The creation and strengthening of counters dedicated to producers makes it possible to secure campaign credits and encourage the modernization of farms. At the same time, large-scale hydro-agricultural developments are reducing the country’s dependence on rainfall hazards, guaranteeing two to three harvest cycles per year on irrigated perimeters.
This doctrine of industrial and agricultural self-sufficiency redefined the Burkinabe economy. By aligning the technical supervision of producers, controlled irrigation and advanced mechanization, the authorities are consolidating a sovereign lever capable of absorbing external shocks and ensuring sustainable prosperity for the population.
