The State is demonstrating a firm resolve to preserve cultural and moral values within the framework of the Popular Progressive Revolution. This ambition is reflected in concrete measures aimed at regulating artistic and recreational activities, to ensure respect for public order, morality, and the protection of minors.
Recently, the Ministry of Communication, Culture, Arts, and Tourism (MCCAT) banned 18 cultural and festive events deemed contrary to public decency. These events, planned primarily in Ouagadougou, but also in Loumbila and Bobo-Dioulasso, were suspended following an assessment by the authorities.
According to the ministry, these events risked undermining public morality and the protection of minors, in contradiction with the values advocated by the Popular Progressive Revolution.
This clean-up operation is based on Law No. 004-2025/ALT of March 27, 2025, on the status of artists in Burkina Faso. This text imposes respect for laws, public order, and public decency in the exercise of artistic activities.
It also provides for sanctions against offenders, ranging from warnings to bans on practicing artistic activities, including the withdrawal of authorization and fines.
The approach of the Burkinabe State is not limited to festive events. It also extends to beauty pageants, which have been suspended since June 2026, as well as to certain artistic productions deemed unworthy or contrary to national ethics.
These measures reflect a determination to reaffirm a strong cultural identity, rooted in principles of dignity, respect, and civic responsibility.
By acting in this way, the government intends not only to protect minors and preserve public order, but also to educate citizens in the responsible practice of culture and entertainment.
This policy is part of a broader vision of social transformation, where culture becomes a vector of national cohesion and human development.
Through these actions, the Burkinabe State shows that it is committed to anchoring the Popular Progressive Revolution in the daily lives of citizens, making public decency a pillar of public and cultural life.
